Our club invites active hikers to an adventure hike, which will take place on May 20, 2023 and will lead from Soroška to Zádiel. On the hike, we will walk through the meadows and forests of Horný vrch to Zádielska dolina – a mountain hut, from where we will cross the Zádielska tiesňava National Park to the village of Zádiel and Dvorníky-Včeláre for the bus. On the route, we will see views of the Pipitky ridge in the north, Drieňovec hill and then the Turnianska basin in the south. The hike is 25 km long and has an elevation gain of over 700 meters.
Jelení vrch is located a little over an hour's walk above the village of Hačava, so we will take a detour to get there. First, we will climb to the Hačavské saddle to admire the forests and meadows in the karst area. Then, however, we will head a little differently, to the Malý Jelení vrch with a beautiful view of the Volovské vrchy ridge. Only then will we climb through the meadow terrain to the transmitter on the southern edge of Jelení vrch. We will walk through a birch grove to the highest point of this hill. From there, we will just descend to the Krížna Poľana saddle and, following the Horné Lúky nature trail, we will go straight to Hačava.
Jelení vrch (947 m a.s.l.) lies on the border of the Volovské vrchy Mountains and the Slovak Karst National Park. The hill, also called Valgata, was named after the important hetman Martin Valgata. Valgata liked to go hunting here with his retinue. At the top is a massive tower transmitting television, radio and GSM signals. The northern slope of the hill is currently forested, the southern part of the summit is deforested. The deforested part of the hill, which consists of a summit meadow, offers unique views of the surroundings. The summit meadows and birch groves are dotted with a huge number of protected flowers.
The village of Hačava is located at the end of the Hájska Valley at an altitude of 650 m in the eastern part of the Slovak Karst. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1345. The first inhabitants were miners of German origin and came here in the second half of the 14th century. Later, Ruthenian shepherds moved in and created the current form of the village and the entire surrounding area. They were engaged in herding, woodcutting, saddle making, iron ore mining and the production of wooden utensils. Today, the village is dominated by Slovak nationality. The village has preserved beautiful original wooden houses, which are among the most interesting sights in the area. The surrounding plains, upper meadows and karst formations are attractive for tourism. There are several hiking trails and one cycling trail that connects the Hájska Valley, the Zádielska Plain and the Zádielska Valley. The asphalt road to Hačava originally ended at the Devil's Bridge. When the crossing was widened with the help of explosives in 1972, the road could be completed all the way to the village. Today it is a popular cottage location.
This hike is extremely unusual. We will also have the longest cave of the Slovak Karst under our feet. We will follow the blue tourist trail from Drienovské kúpely through the Palanta National Park, through the valley of the Miglinc stream to an old apple orchard and across a deforested plain steeply down to the village of Háj.
Radoslav Medzihradský's first hike in the Slovak Karst led in exactly the opposite direction, and thanks to a visit to an apple orchard, Rado fell in love with the area. RNDr. Alena Gessert, PhD, who carries out her professional work there, also fell in love with the plain. Both will describe the plain to the public as they know and love it.
The apple orchard is at least a hundred years old and is slowly getting older. In addition to dozens of apple trees, there are the remains of the Keglevich family's hunting lodge, a monument to murdered Hungarian soldiers, a hunting lodge and a resting place with a fireplace. Behind the orchard is the source of the Miglinc stream and several smaller caves. In the area of the sheepfold, the plain is cut down. Yellow spring primroses shine through the stumps and grass. At the beginning of the descent to the Grove, it is possible to enjoy the view of the Turniansky hradný vrch from an inconspicuous lookout.

The peak of Bystrá rises above the villages of Miklušovce and Klenov. A shorter but steeper ascent leads from the Ružín train station. The peak consists of vast meadows surrounded by mixed forests. In summer and autumn, the forests are full of mushrooms and wild fruits.
The route to the Bystra leads along the MTZ. Just a little west of the route is Suchý vrch, a rocky ridge. The peak provides a limited view of Napoleon's Hat and the High Tatras. There are beautiful rock formations nearby.

On March 13, 2021, editor Mgr. Miroslava Vaníková and our club filmed a report about interesting tourist places in the Košice districts, specifically about the unique Cross of Reconciliation, which is located in the Ťahanovský Forest.
The show continued with a conversation in the Košice studio of RTVS with the presenters about how tourism works currently, what individual events and series of trips our club has prepared for tourists during the corona pandemic.

The Košice Tourist Club prepared a hike from Kysak to Jánošík's Bastion along the SNP Heroes' Path. While still in the village, we walked around the wall with the SNP Heroes' Path drawn on it. We continued past the Mário spring with very high-quality water. Jánošík's Bastion - our destination, is a limestone cliff about 45 meters high. It used to be called Kossuth's Bastion, but after the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia it was renamed from Hungarian to Slovak hero.
From Jánošík's Bastion we can see several peaks - Tlstá, the ruins of Kysak Castle, Zbojnícký Castle, Šimonka and the Dubník Tower. On the way back, you can turn slightly right at the mountain hut and come to the Kysak Cave before returning to Kysak.

It is a unique peak in the Volovské vrchy massif. From the perspective of landscape, tourism, or in winter skiing, Kojšovská hoľa is truly unique. With an altitude of 1246 m above sea level, snow can be found here for a long time, even if there is no snow everywhere. That is why hundreds of people come here in winter to find snow.
The most beautiful ascent route starts in Zlatá Idka and leads to the summit along the blue tourist mark for about 5 km. The route is pleasant because the mark initially follows the asphalt road. It then continues along the former ski slope to the Golgota saddle on the SNP Heroes' Path, then under the ski lifts to the saddle below the summit and finally along the wide road to the top of Kojšovská hoľa.
It is constantly windy at the top. Due to the harsh conditions in the area, only solitary, smaller spruce trees grow. One of our friends from Košice says that Kráľova hoľa is the queen of the hills and Kojšovská hoľa is the princess of the hills. Although it is several hundred meters lower, it is equal to Kráľova hoľa in beauty.

Šľuchta, known and unknown, is a massive hill located in the Čierna hora mountain range between the villages of Jaklovce and Margecany. The summit ridge with three peaks is forested. West of the peak is the Veles viewpoint, which provides views of the High Tatras. Three other viewpoints, Kolovrat, Lada and Dživa, are located north of the peak and provide views of Ružín, the Čierna hora mountain range, the main train line, the village of Rolova huta and the cottage settlement of Kozinec.

RÁDIO KOŠICE: Tourism and cycling are experiencing a renaissance during the corona crisis, and people have returned from shopping centers to nature. However, when planning their trips, they often find that they are not familiar with their immediate surroundings. They can be inspired by projects such as the Tourist Magnet of the Košičan KVT, the Viewpoint of the Three Crowns of the Tatras KTV Tuke, or the VKA - Vrchárska Koruna Abov. We will advise tourists and cyclists in this recording.
